London: 8 March 2009 Flash Alert! A mid afternoon squall and a chilly wind takes the edge of a pleasant excursion across town to the plush Grosvenor House Hotel for the second time in the past week. Today the theatre folk celebrate their successes at the Laurence Olivier awards. The taxis, cars and darkened window limos pull up in wave after wave to disgorge their well dressed cargoes onto the red carpet. Fans, autograph hunters and non accredited ones are kept behind a barrier. I had a great spot in a cosy corner with my in a sling left shoulder protected and the icy wind held at bay. The stars are very happy to sign, pose and chat particularly when the knowledgeable fan GL engages them about their work. The start of the event draws close and the rate of arrival increases and it is hard to get everyone in shot in the confusion. Then suddenly it is all over. The paps fold their ladders for another year and off home I trek in a shared taxi as a special treat for my six hour wait.
