Chausson (1855-99) is known for his songs and for orchestral and chamber works (in particular the Poeme for violin and orchestra). His very few piano works seem to be ignored today, but the 'Quelques Danses' from 1896 are an important set which I would like to hear in recital. There are four dances, of which this video contains the first two, which are linked. They were dedicated to the wife of the French poet Robert de Bonnieres (1850 - 1905), at whose salons the Wagner-loving group of French composers with whom Chausson associated would meet up (de Bonnieres wrote the words for Duparc's 'Le Manoir de Rosamonde and several works by d'Indy). Chausson's piano writing in this work is rather lke a piano reduction of a string quartet in texture (not a criticism). The entire score is available on IMSLP - will someone please upload a video at the virtuosic Forlane which ends the set! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Played by Phillip Sear http://www.psear.co.uk
