Ares 1-X Launch: Liftoff!

Booster ignition and liftoff of the Ares I-X flight test vehicle! For the first time since 1981, a new rocket is rising from Launch Complex 39. Ares I-X is beginning a 20-second "fly-away" steering maneuver designed to guide it away from the launch tower to minimize damage to the pad.
