My entry for the Health Reform Contest. according to the AMA, there were over 400 mergers of Health Insurance Providers between 1995 and 2005 and in over 95% of metropolitan areas there is virtually no competition between insurers. These factors explain why insurers continue to raise premiums, lower coverage and benefits and reap record profits. If there is no one competing against a product than consumers suffer.
