Groundhog Spring Training

The Tennessee Aquarium's groundhog is quite a little character. This cute little rodent might be best known through weather folklore. According to legend, if the groundhog sees his shadow on Groundhog Day, February 2nd, he will be scared back into his hole for six more weeks of winter. If the groundhog does not see his shadow, it will be an early spring. Aquarium visitors will learn more about the woodchuck's adaptations and where it lives, along with dozens of other species, during up close animal encounter programs. Senior educator Susie Grant talks about how Aquarium experts train animals like the woodchuck so they can be introduced to visitors during animal encounter programs. Woodchucks are also known as groundhogs and whistlepigs. Grant also gives a few training tips for dog and cat lovers in this video.
